Tachi-Iai courses are designed for those who wish to become accomplished in the traditional long sword. These courses will cover Iaido, Nakamura-ryu and Tameshigiri. These programs are described below.
Iaido Iaido training courses offer a very functional and motivating approach to the age-old art of the Japanese sword. This course will teach you the eight basic Toyama-Iai-Batto-Do patterns without speaking Japanese. Traditional classes using the Japanese language are available for those who wish to take advantage of that extra pursuit.
Samurai Sports' Iaido begins with a wooden sword and advances through various stages of learning until the time wood is exchanged for steel. The usage of the steel blade will further enhance sword drawing, cutting and sheathing techniques.

Nakamura-ryu Samurai Sports' Nakamura-Ryu 8 kata series closely follows the Japanese Military Toyama-Ryu series but puts emphasis on test cutting (tameshigiri). These forms, movements and cutting techniques employ the basic 8 patterns called Happo-giri, which imitate the strokes of a calligraphy brush.
This nakamura-ryu kata series includes unsheathing the blade from different angles; executing upward and downward diagonal, vertical and horizontal cuts; chiburi/ cleaning the blade, and re-sheathing the sword using various patterns. The nakamura kata creates a strong cutting foundation.
Tameshigiri Sword instruction for tameshigiri includes instruction on how to safely and correctly wield a razor sharp lethal sword as used in test cutting. You will learn test cutting patterns using various sword sizes, lengths and weights which will upon execution ……give an awesome experience.
You will execute the various diagonal, horizontal and vertical cuts, including the famous ichi to roku-dan-giri and happo-giri cutting series with a Japanese steel (shinken) sword. You will also learn how to roll, tie and cure tatami mats for use in test cutting using either short sword(wakizashi), long sword (katana) or military sword (gunto).
